How do the Riff-A-Day lessons work?
The Riff-A-Day lessons work in the following manner. Each day you will receive an e-mail with an attachment of a PDF file. This PDF file will be downloaded to your computer in a folder of your choosing. The PDF contains the text, notation and tablature of that day's lesson. The PDF will be opened with the free Adobe Reader program which comes installed on most computers. If you do not currently have a version of Adobe Reader on your computer you can click here to download the latest free version of it. In addition there will be a link within the PDF to the mp3 audio example of the lesson. When you click on the mp3 audio link the mp3 will automatically be played in your default media player.
What kind of guitarist are the Riff-A-Day lessons intended for?
The Riff-A-Day lessons are intended for the guitarist who has played for anywhere from one to twenty plus years, from advanced beginners to seasoned pros. The Riff-A-Day lessons are not intended for beginners, though, as the material will be too advanced for them. But for the guitarist who has played for a bit and is finding themselves stuck in a rut and desires to move forward in their learning, the Riff-A-Day lessons are perfect. Each day a new lesson will arrive that will stimulate your fingers and your mind to continually grow, learn and improve on your instrument - and at the same time you're having fun playing interesting and cool guitar riffs!
How much do I pay for the daily riffs?
The cost of the Riff-A-Day e-mail lesson subscription is $39.95 for an entire year! That's 365 lessons! That's less than 12 cents a day for a new fun and educational guitar lesson that comes to you each and every day in your in-box.
How are the Riff-A-Day lessons different from all the other types of lessons available?
The Riff-A-Day lessons are different in that - they come to you! No more searching the internet, driving to lessons, scrounging through piles of magazines or trying to get your friends to show you stuff. Each and every day a fun, interesting and educational lesson is delivered to you and waiting for you in your in-box.
What can I expect to learn from the Riff-A-Day lessons?
The Riff-A-Day lessons are intended to provide you with education and fun. To do this the lessons cover the widest variety of subjects covering theory, styles of music, musical concepts, techniques, etc. You will learn all aspects of guitar playing that make for a well-round, skilled and knowledgeable guitar player. Ultimately, the goal is to use the concepts and ideas that you are learning and use them to become the creative and resourceful guitarist you desire to be.
The lessons are formatted into weekly units based around a major concept, technique, style, etc. In addition, each day the lesson will have a minor premise added to the major concept being studied to add variety to the weeks study and to show the different ways a concept, aspect of theory, technique or style of music can be combined with others and thus expanded upon to create endless avenues of creativity.
What's the best way to use the Riff-A-Day lessons?
The Riff-A-Day lessons can be used in several different ways. First, the student can learn the entire riff each day and incorporate it into their daily practice routine. Or, the student can simply choose to learn only the riffs that interest them the most. If the student passes on a riff on a given day they can be assured that another one is coming the next day. Any riff that you don't learn immediately can always be returned to at some later point. Another way to use the Riff-A-Day lessons is to just pick out the smaller parts of a riff that interest you the most and focus your practicing solely on it.
The ultimate use of the Riff-A-Day lessons, though, is to have the student study the lessons and then utilize the concept being taught each week to then create their own riff from the knowledge and understanding they have gained from studying during the course of the week. Ultimately, your Riff-A-Day lessons will be used in all these manners and more at various times during your practicing to suit your personal needs.
Do I need to be able to read music for the Riff-A-Day lessons?
No note reading is required for the Riff-A-Day lessons. All lessons are presented in professional quality tablature. Though you do not need to read music for the lessons, standard notation has been provided as well and will be helpful for those who do know how to read music for the guitar.
Who is my teacher for the Riff-A-Day lessons?
Your instructor for the Riff-A-Day lessons is Glen West. Glen has been a student of the guitar for thirty years and teaching full-time for a living for twenty-three years helping other guitarists achieve their musical potential. He is a graduate of the world-renowned Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, California. Glen also has a Bachelor in Education degree from Arizona State University.
Are the Riff-A-Day lessons only for electric guitar?
Though many of the riffs and lessons can be played on an acoustic or electric, this version of the Riff-A-Day lessons is primarily geared for the electric guitar. Keep your eyes open in the future, though, for an acoustic version of the Riff-A-Day lessons.
